Carlton Way Pocket Park

Hollywood, California

Inspired by Shel Silverstein’s poem, “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” the 0.2 acre Carlton Way Pocket Park creates a world of child-like imagination through an integration of concrete pathways, imaginative play equipment, and “clouds of fog” that create whimsy as children play.

Through a community-based design process, the park’s design incorporates clear lines of sight and introduces transparency within the dense city center location. Oriented at a 20 degree angle to give the illusion of open space, the park provides a place of exploration and wonder for the community.
